DASEP - Drug & Alcohol Safety Education

DASEP (Drug & Alcohol Safety Education Program) provides DWI/DUI/MIP pre-sentence screenings, referrals to assessment for substance abuse treatment, and state-mandated Drug and Alcohol Safety Education Classes for those needing to reinstate their driver's license.

Arkansas is split into eight DASEP catchment areas with eight different providers designated to cover each area. WACGC (The Guidance Center) provides services for Area 4, which consists of Sebastian, Crawford, Franklin, Scott, Polk, and Logan counties.

According to Arkansas Code §5-65-402, anyone arrested for DWI/DUI, refusal to submit to chemical testing for DWI, or Minor in Possession of Alcohol (§3-3-203) must surrender their driving license and complete a Drug and Alcohol program for license reinstatement. Proof of completion is given to the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) as per §5-65-115.

To determine the appropriate level of education, individuals charged with such offenses must submit to a Pre-Sentence Screening Report (PSSR). If arrested in one of the counties in Area 4, reach out to schedule a DWI/DUI screening.

According to Arkansas Code §5-65-121, anyone whose driving privileges are suspended or revoked for violating §5-65-103 (DWI), §5-65-205 (refusal), §5-65-310 (underage refusal), or §3-3-203 (minor in possession) must attend a Victim Impact Panel (V.I.P.), provided by a DASEP provider. The V.I.P. shines a light on the destruction that driving while impaired can cause. It is the 'heart' of post DWI/DUI conviction — education and treatment help the mind, while the V.I.P. helps internalize the effects of driving impaired.
