About Horizon
A recovery setting that feels more lived-in than clinical.
Recovery is about more than stopping substance use; it's about rebuilding your life. At Horizon Renewal Center, we provide a safe, structured, and supportive residential treatment program where individuals can begin that process with dignity, hope, and compassionate care.
Located in the peaceful Arkansas River Valley in Booneville, Arkansas, Horizon offers an environment that feels welcoming and comfortable while providing the clinical structure needed to support lasting recovery. As a co-occurring treatment program, we care for individuals experiencing substance use disorders as well as co-occurring mental health conditions, with every client receiving an individualized treatment plan developed by our multidisciplinary team of licensed therapists, mental health professionals, addiction counselors, APRNs, nursing staff, case managers, and peer support professionals. Many members of our team are also in long-term recovery themselves.
Recovery doesn't end when residential treatment is complete. We are committed to helping clients build a strong foundation for the future through thoughtful recovery management planning and access to continuing levels of care, including outpatient services and our Community Bridge program — a structured, supportive environment where individuals can continue developing independence, strengthen recovery skills, and successfully transition back into everyday life.

Why Horizon
Built to feel different on the way in — and stick after the way out.
Residential, not institutional
Intentionally calmer and more personal than a clinical facility. Horizon is designed to feel peaceful, grounded, and livable while clients do hard work.
Staff who understand recovery
Many team members are in long-term recovery themselves, which gives the program credibility, empathy, and practical perspective.
Experiential healing with horses
Equine group therapy creates a lower-pressure way to build awareness, accountability, communication, and confidence.
A fuller continuum of care
From admissions to residential treatment to outpatient care and Community Bridge, Horizon is built to reduce the drop-off that often happens after discharge.
In their words
What clients say about Horizon.
I recently spent 30 days at Horizon Renewal Center in Booneville for addiction issues. My stay there was the most peaceful, serene stay that I could have hoped for. The staff was most professional and caring and made time for lots of one-on-one time. I have been to three previous treatment centers but this is the first one I have completed. I highly recommend them.
I would give Horizon Renewal Center 5 stars for the staff, the food, the cleanliness and the groups. I feel like everyone has helped me with their stories and I have tried to help them. I learned how to allow my emotions out in a healthy way. The staff and the counselors, going on outings, going to see the horses, everything helped free my body from stress. It is a smaller facility so it was a lot easier to get comfortable and helped me stay.

Equine therapy
Why Equine Group Therapy Works in Early Recovery
One of the biggest things we see is that people will often try for the horse before they're ready to try for themselves. Early recovery can come with a lot of resistance, shame, and uncertainty, but something shifts when a horse is involved. Clients will take a step, stay present, or push through discomfort for the horse in a way they might not in a traditional therapy setting.
That's where the work really begins.
Instead of just talking about coping skills, they're actually practicing them in real time—staying calm when they're frustrated, being patient, communicating clearly, and making intentional choices. The horses respond to what's happening in the moment, which helps clients build awareness without feeling judged or called out.
It also lowers defenses. There's no pressure to "say the right thing." It's a more natural, grounded way to engage, especially for people who struggle in a traditional talk therapy environment.
In a group setting (which is all we do with the equine work at this point), it adds another layer—teamwork, communication, and learning how to navigate relationships in a healthier way.
Overall, it helps clients:
Sometimes people aren't ready to do the work for themselves yet, but they'll do it for the horse. And that's often the starting point for real change.

Common questions before admission
What should I bring with me?+
There is a 2-bag limit per client. One bag should hold about a week of weather-appropriate clothing (8 shirts/blouses, jeans/pants/skirts, underwear, socks, bras, pajamas, a robe, slippers, a coat/jacket, gloves, a hat, and sneakers or flats plus shower shoes). The second bag holds everything else. A washer and dryer are available on-site, and you'll plan to swap out clothing as the seasons change since outdoor activities are part of the program.
What's provided so I don't have to pack it?+
Bedding, towels, linens, laundry detergent, basic cleaning supplies, furniture, snacks, and meals are all provided, along with basic toiletries and hygiene products if needed. We also keep appropriate over-the-counter medications on hand (for example, Tylenol in unopened bottles). Please bring your own razor and shaving supplies.
Can I bring my own toiletries?+
Yes—and we encourage it. Most clients are more comfortable with their own hair brush, comb, shampoo, deodorant, soap (bar or bottle), toothbrush, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, razor, and shaving cream, though basic toiletries are available if needed. Toiletries must be in a clear plastic bag and are separate from your 2-bag limit. Products containing alcohol (perfumes, nail polish remover, mouthwash, hand sanitizer, etc.) are not permitted.
What about medications?+
Please bring only a 30-day supply of your prescribed medications, and make sure everything is in the original pharmacy-provided prescription bottles or packaging.
Is nicotine use allowed?+
Yes, nicotine use is permitted. Because you won't be able to purchase tobacco products after admission, please bring your own unopened cigarettes, disposable unopened vapes, and unopened chewing tobacco. Family members may drop off additional tobacco products during designated times. Federal law prohibits tobacco use by anyone under 21.
What should I leave at home?+
Please do not bring bedding, linens, towels, iPads/tablets, laptops, gaming systems, perfume or cologne, aerosol spray, outside snacks/drinks, or meals. Weapons, illicit drugs, and non-prescribed medications are never allowed. Provocative or inappropriate clothing—cut-offs, spaghetti straps, mini-skirts, short shorts, or see-through clothing—should stay at home as well.
Can I bring cash or valuables?+
You may bring up to $40 in cash for personal use (this also has to fit within the 2-bag limit, along with stamps, notebooks, envelopes, pens/colored pencils, appropriate books, novels, magazines, and family photos). Horizon Renewal is not responsible for cash or valuables left in the room, so we recommend keeping anything over $40 and any valuables at home.
