Parenting

Raising Kids is a hard job.

To do it right, you need,

time
energy
self-control
love.

It's a job with many ups and downs. And you learn more about it all the time.

As a parent, you are the most important
person in your child's life.

Help Your Kids Grow Up Healthy & Safe
Make sure they:

    eat good food.

    get enough rest

    get good health care

have time to learn, play and help out at home.

Teach your kids to stay away from danger. Find a safe place for them to play. Make sure they know where to go for help.

Help Your Kids Feel Good About Themselves
  • Show your love often. Hug your kids, and say "I love you."
  • Take an interest in what they do. Make time for them.
  • Praise your kids. Show your love and support, even if they fail. Show you can smile when times are hard.
Help Your Kids Learn

Talk with them. Answer their questions. And, listen to what they say. Get books from a library. Limit T.V.

Show your kids you care about school:
  • Ask them what they're learning.
  • Make sure they do their homework.
  • Talk with their teachers.

Kids Need Rules to Live By
Rules show you care. Make rules for:

where they can go

what they can do

when they can do things

who they can be with

If Your Kids Break a Rule:

  • Don't lose your cool -- take time to calm down.
  • Be firm but fair.
  • Tell them what they did wrong -- and what you want them to do.
  • Don't yell, hit or threaten to harm your kids.
  • Make sure they know you still love them.

Set an example by what you say and do.
