Western Arkansas Counseling & Guidance Center

Group Psychotherapy

Group Therapy is another form of therapy offered at the The Guidance Center.  A small group of clients meet regularly under the guidance of a mental health professional to talk, interact and discuss problems associated with their therapeutic objectives.  Many clients are referred to these groups by a staff mental health professional or a court officer.

Below is a list of groups currently available for adults at the Fort Smith clinic. Please contact your local clinic or your therapist for a list of groups currently available.

Anger Management

This program provides a comprehensive approach for individuals with poor impulse control.  They focus is on anger management and affect regulation skills.

Co-Occurring/Dual Recovery

This group is for adults with both substance use and mental health disorders.  Treatment is focused on the reduction of both mental health and chemical dependence symptoms.

Parenting

The Parenting Group offers a supportive environment to discuss parenting concerns and to give parents tools they need to raise their children.  The current course offered is called "Becoming Love and Logic Parents" and emphasizes teaching children to be more responsible for their own behaviors, while reducing stress on parents.
