Community Support Programs were developed in the late 1970s to facilitate successful integration and community living following the deinstitutionalization movement of the 1960s.
The Center’s Community Support Program offers services to persons with persistent or chronic mental illness. The N.E.W. Center of the Community Support Program provides services that focus on the person’s strengths, abilities and needs, while including the desire an choices of each person served. Services may include:
Identification, assessment, diagnosis of the target population;
Assistance to clients in applying for entitlements or benefits;
Crisis stabilization and intervention services;
Psychosocial rehabilitation services;
Supportive living and working arrangements of indefinite duration;
Medical and mental health care;
Back-up support and assistance to families, friends and community members;
Involvement of concerned community members in planning and offering housing or working opportunities;
Protection of client rights, both in hospitals and in the community;
Case management to ensure continuous availability of appropriate forms of assistance.
